Serving the local Tacoma/Puyallup area for over 40 years with beautiful tubers, plants and cut dahlias. 3rd generation owned Dahlia farm.

Located at 10516 Waller Rd E, Tacoma, WA 98446, Connell’s Dahlias operates as a plant nursery serving Tacoma in Washington. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

In Tacoma, nurseries are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Washington, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Check the listing for hours, seasonal closures and Google rating before you go.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. On most of those days it is open 9 am–4:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Its website is connells-dahlias.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 20 reviews, which is a strong result for a plant nursery in Tacoma and suggests consistent service.

Tacoma is in Washington, in the Pacific Northwest, where winters are mild and wet, summers are dry and pleasant, and outdoor recreation drives a lot of local business; hours change little through the year. Getting around Tacoma is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Washington's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I placed an online order for dahlia tuber pickup and received an email when they were ready. (Connell's also made an announcement on Facebook, which alerted me to check my Spam.) Website was user- friendly, no complaints. Driving instructions were very clear. Pickup was smooth and fast. My order was correct, and I even received an extra tuber in one of my bags! The tubers were absolutely pristine (see my photo). So firm and healthy. Not at all like the old, mushy, dirty ones you find in the big box stores. I waited until today, May 1st, to plant them out. By then, each and every one of my 8 varieties had already sprouted! Yes!!! I planted them with bonemeal and a fencing stake in each hole. Using the square foot gardening method, I planted 1 tuber per square, in a 3x6' raised bed, 2 rows total, with "State Fair" zinnias sown thinly between the dahlia squares. A bit close, sure, but I'm just growing for my own enjoyment and want to discourage weeds. I dug a 5" deep hole for each tuber and ended up covering them with 2-3" of soil. Lay them on their sides, eye/shoot facing up. This dahlia farm, Connell's, has been in the same family for generations. They know what they're doing, an

Excellent tubers and blooms in 2025. 4/4 did very despite adverse growing conditions. I ordered many more this spring.

I've been buying dahlia tubers and bouquets from Connell's for years now. The quality and pricing of their tubers cannot be beat and it feels good to support local. I grow around 150+ dahlias in my home garden. Due to the wet spring that we had here in the PNW I knew that the specific varieties that I planted for my August wedding would not have bloomed in time. I contacted Shea and Lizzie Connell and they were able to arrange buckets of dahlias for me to pick up prior to my wedding day. The varieties that Shea suggested were beautiful and I look forward to ordering the same tubers once the shop opens. Thank you again for accommodating me.

Such Beautiful Dahlias. We took a walk through the gardens while trying to decide what Dahlias tubers I wanted to buy for my next year's flower bed. It cleared my mind of all the bad stress. Thank you for letting us go through your gardens. I attached a few pictures I took while we were there.

This place is amazing. If I lived closer I would come by every few days for a new bunch. The bunches are 1 for $8 or 3 for $20 and they are huge and beautiful. Each bunch seemed to have 2 dahlia varieties, and they were made up in nice combos. We bought 4 bunches and they were so big they didn't really fit in the big gardening bucket I brought to hold them. The gentleman handling payment was friendly, and FYI they do accept cards at the stand! We used 4 bunches as the core flowers for my DIY bridal bouquet and arbor swag and they made our wedding gorgeous. I'm so glad that this place is here! The previous reviewer seems to have made a mistake with their math; it looks to me like they were charged properly. And I think these prices are pretty generous!
